Customer Reviews
Limescale descaler is good, from the very beginning everyone at hose felt the difference in the water.

—— Pedro Aguiar

The customer service is top-notch, making the entire process seamless. If on the fence, go for it. We tried this firstly for a commercial place, a shop that do much work with the water, which is relatively hard. Now we see the result pretty positive, thus, some more shops would get equipped.

—— Oliver

Good quality and design. Very easy for installation and setting. You can feel the effectiveness of the SAAS device immediately after installation

Let’s be honest — nobody brags about their prefilters. But maybe they should. These unsung heroes do the heavy lifting early on, taking the pressure off your expensive final filters so they can work efficiently and last longer.

What Exactly Is a Prefilter?

As the name suggests, prefilters come first in line — think of them as bouncers keeping the troublemakers out so the real party can happen further downstream. Large water systems that need to reduce suspended solids often rely on media like sand, diatomaceous earth, or other fine materials that trap particles as small as 5–10 microns. This keeps ultrafiltration and reverse osmosis membranes from clogging up too soon. The best part? Many of these filters can be backwashed to rinse away trapped debris and get back to work without missing a beat.

The Main Types of Prefilters

Cartridge Pre-Filters
For small to medium systems, cartridge prefilters and capsules are the reliable workhorses. They can handle single-step filtration or be stacked in multi-round housings for higher flow rates. Large operations sometimes use housings packed with up to eighty 40-inch-long cartridges. And if your incoming water has more than its fair share of unwanted particles, using more than one type of prefilter is a smart way to tackle everything efficiently.

Activated Charcoal
If chlorine and organic chemicals are lurking in your water, activated charcoal is your best defense — especially for reverse osmosis systems where chlorine exposure can damage sensitive membranes. Depending on the system size, charcoal filters can live inside larger canisters or be fitted into standard cartridge housings.

Bag Filters
Bag filters keep things simple and effective. They work much like a vacuum cleaner bag — water flows in, contaminants stay put. When the bag is full, just drain it and replace it with a fresh one. Quick, clean, done.

Simple or Complex — What’s Best for You?

Some systems are straightforward: a single prefilter followed by a final filter does the job. In these setups, the prefilter is usually a depth filter designed to catch particles and extend the life of the final filter. It could be pleated, melt-blown, or yarn-wound — all depending on the pore size and filtration needs. These filters can be sized to be replaced together, or you can swap out the prefilter separately to keep things running smoothly.

For more demanding applications, multiple prefiltration stages may be needed. If your fluid has a high load of particles in various sizes, you might use a coarse prefilter (10 microns or larger) to trap the big stuff, followed by a finer prefilter (1 micron or less) before the final filter steps in for the finishing touch.

In biopharmaceutical processes, you’ll often see a three-step approach: a particle filter, a bio-reduction filter, and a sterilizing-grade filter. The first catches large particles, the second removes bacteria that might otherwise clog up the final sterilizing filter, and the third delivers a final clean. In these systems, depth filters are common for the first stage, while membrane filters handle the bio-reduction step.

Smart Design: Combining Filters

When space is tight, it’s possible to build a prefilter and final filter into a single unit by layering different filter media and membranes. This compact design delivers multi-stage protection without the need for multiple housings.
